Generally, worker bees that are born from spring through autumn live for about 45 days.
Winter bees, however, live more than twice as long. This is because they are born with bodies suited for overwintering, and unlike summer bees, they do not wear themselves out by working outside.
Honeybees do not hibernate. During winter, the winter bees cluster tightly around the queen, warming one another as they endure the cold together. After caring for the new brood that emerges in early February, they quietly complete their life’s work.
