What is Mead?

Mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey.
With just honey and water as its base, yeast ferments the natural sugars in honey into alcohol. Because the ingredients are so simple, the quality of the honey and the skill of the brewer define the character of the mead.

During fermentation, most of the honey’s sugars are converted into alcohol, giving traditional mead a clean, dry profile. Sweeter styles are often created by adding honey after fermentation.

Like wine, mead can also mature over time, developing deeper complexity as it ages.

Hime Mead “la abeja reina” is crafted with BeeCamp’s 100% Matsuyama-grown raw honey, gently paired with a hint of Iyokan citrus and finished with light carbonation.
“La abeja reina” means “the queen bee” in Spanish.

A refreshing expression of the natural bounty of the Setouchi region.
