Even in that brief moment of light, after the rain has stopped and before the next shower arrives, the honeybees head out.
By the time they return, they may be caught in the rain and unable to make it home.
Around the hives, hornets are desperately watching for a chance. Dragonflies, praying mantises, and even swallows pick off the honeybees, one by one.
And still, the honeybees fly out, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Some of the worker bees leave even though their wings are already worn and damaged, knowing that this flight might be their last. There is no time to hesitate or say goodbye.
And when a honeybee successfully completes her mission and makes it safely home, she walks proudly through the hive entrance and passes her harvest to the younger worker bees waiting inside.
A brief moment of rest.
And then, she sets out on her next flight.
No one tells her what to do.
She simply gives everything she has to fulfill her role.
